# Retrogrades Aren't a Curse. Here's What They Actually Do.

What planetary retrogrades really mean in Vedic astrology — and why the doom narrative is mostly wrong.

Every few months the same headline returns: a planet is going retrograde, and you should brace for chaos. Back up your files, don't sign anything, avoid your ex. It makes for good posts. It's also a poor reading of what's actually happening.

A retrograde is an apparent motion. From where we stand, a planet looks like it's moving backward against the stars. Nothing about your life is being sabotaged from orbit. What changes is emphasis — the themes that planet governs in your chart get a second pass, a review, a slower read.

## Review, not ruin

Mercury governs how you think, write, and agree. When it retrogrades, the invitation is to re-examine those things, not to fear them. Contracts get read twice. Old conversations resurface so they can finally close. That's not a curse. That's maintenance.

> The sky isn't happening to you. It's describing a season you're already in.

What matters far more than the retrograde itself is where it lands in your chart, and whether the planet is a friend or a challenge for your specific ascendant. A retrograde in a supportive house reads completely differently from one sitting on a sensitive point.

## What we actually track

Our Retrograde Karma reading maps all five retrograding planets plus the Rahu-Ketu axis against your birth chart — the exact houses activated, the shadow-period dates, and a plain do-and-don't for each. No panic. Just the specific terrain, for the specific person.
