Supastro vs ChatGPT for Vedic Astrology: Can a Chatbot Cast Your Kundli?
ChatGPT is a fine tutor and a weak chart-caster. We compare it with Supastro on Lagna, nakshatra, dasha dates, checks and price, with sources.

Disclosure: Supastro publishes this article and it is our product. ChatGPT figures come from OpenAI's own pages, last checked on 15 October 2026. Sources are listed at the end.
Why this question matters to a Jyotishi
A Jyotishi never reads a chart they have not cast. Every judgement in Parashari astrology rests on three numbers: the degree of the Lagna, the degree of the Moon, and the sidereal correction (ayanamsa) applied to both. Get those wrong and everything built on them is wrong, however fluent the reading sounds.
The margins are small:
- The Lagna moves about one degree every four minutes. A guessed ascendant changes all twelve houses, and with them your D9 and D10.
- A nakshatra is 13°20' wide, and a pada 3°20'. A Moon that is off by two degrees can land in a different pada or nakshatra.
- Vimshottari dasha is seeded from the Moon's exact position in its nakshatra. One degree of error in the Moon moves every mahadasha date by up to about a year and a half (1° is 7.5% of a nakshatra; 7.5% of Venus's 20 years is 1.5 years).
- The sidereal and tropical zodiacs are about 24° apart today. A model that slips into Western, tropical positions will put most planets in a different sign.
So the real question is not "which AI writes better?" It is "who did the arithmetic, and can I check it?"

Where ChatGPT is genuinely better
Credit where it is due. ChatGPT is the better tool for several jobs, and pretending otherwise would make this page useless.
- Learning Jyotish. It explains a yoga, a bhava or a dasha concept clearly, and you can keep asking follow-up questions for free. Its Free plan offers unlimited text chats, subject to abuse limits.
- Breadth. It will move from your Navamsa to drafting an email to translating a shloka. Supastro does one thing.
- Languages. ChatGPT works in Hindi, Tamil, Bengali and many other languages. Supastro is English only today.
- With the right plugin, it can be grounded. ChatGPT now supports plugins, and at least one Vedic plugin (Steer Astro) says its calculations use the Swiss Ephemeris. ChatGPT plus a dedicated calculation plugin is a different thing from plain ChatGPT. This page compares plain ChatGPT.
- It can run code. OpenAI's data-analysis feature writes and runs Python. In principle it could compute positions if it had the right library and ephemeris data, but its sandbox cannot download data from the web, and it will not do this unless you ask. Most people never ask.
Where plain ChatGPT goes wrong on a kundli
It answers with positions it never calculated
A language model predicts likely text. Unless it runs code, a "Moon in Rohini, 14° Taurus" is a plausible sentence, not a calculation. OpenAI says this directly: its help centre warns that ChatGPT may sound confident even when it is wrong, and lists incorrect dates and facts among its known errors.
The best public test we found was published by Architect on 4 October 2026. It gave 50 invented birth records to OpenAI's default model with web search off and checked the results against astronomy software. 49 of the 50 charts had at least one planet in the wrong sign, and the rising sign was wrong in 33 of 40 timed charts. The Sun was right every time; the fast-moving Moon and ascendant were not. Two cautions: Architect sells its own app, and the test does not say which zodiac it used, so treat it as an indication rather than proof. Practising astrologers have reported the same pattern in Vedic use, including ChatGPT quietly switching to tropical positions.
It drifts between zodiacs
Ask in plain English for "my birth chart" and many models default to Western, tropical astrology. Ask for "Vedic" and they may apply the sidereal correction to some planets and not others. Because the two zodiacs differ by about 24°, this one slip moves most of your planets into the neighbouring sign.
Dasha dates are where it fails quietly
Vimshottari dates need the Moon's exact longitude, then the balance of the first dasha, then 120 years of arithmetic down to antardasha and pratyantardasha. A model doing this "in its head" will usually give you dates that look right and are not. Nothing on the screen tells you which.
It is built to agree with you
A general assistant is tuned to be helpful and agreeable. In astrology that means it rarely says "your chart does not support this". A Jyotishi's job often is to say exactly that.
What Supastro does differently
Supastro is an AI Vedic astrology app made by Quantum Karma in Bengaluru. The order of work is the whole difference:
- Compute. Your kundli is calculated by code from NASA JPL ephemeris data on the Lahiri ayanamsa: the 16 Shodashvarga charts and higher vargas, Shadbala across six sources, the 337-point Ashtakavarga, Vimshottari dasha to four levels (to sookshma) and Yogini dasha.
- Hand over fixed facts. Those values are given to the AI as facts it may not change. It explains; it does not calculate.
- Check. Validators compare the answer's numbers, dasha dates and placements against the computed chart. If something is wrong, the answer is rewritten once. Minor issues left after that are logged.
- Argue, for big decisions. The optional Council puts three specialist agents on the same chart (a Dasha Timer, a Chart Analyst and a Karma Reader), adds an independent Verifier, and has a Chief write one plan that must keep any unresolved disagreement visible.
One honest point: Supastro also uses large language models from established AI providers, as our privacy policy states. The model is not the difference. The difference is what the model is handed and what it is checked against.
- Chart computed by code before any AI writes
- Validators check numbers and dasha dates against the chart
- Council with an independent Verifier for big decisions
- 39 free tools and 5 free starter credits, no card
- No gemstone or puja upsells; remedies are mantras and home rituals specific to your chart
- English only
- Lahiri ayanamsa only; no KP system
- Credits limit how many questions you can ask (2 credits a question, 4 for a deep prediction)
- Web and installable web app only; no Play Store or App Store listing
- Not a general assistant
Test any AI astrologer in five minutes
Do this with ChatGPT, with Supastro, or with any app before you trust it with a real decision. You need one reference chart from a free calculator such as Drik Panchang or Jagannatha Hora, set to Lahiri.
- Ask for your Lagna degree. It should match the reference to within a few arc-minutes.
- Ask for your Moon's nakshatra and pada. These must match exactly.
- Ask for your current mahadasha and antardasha, with start and end dates. They should match the reference to within days, not months.
- Ask the same question twice in fresh chats. The wording can change. The degrees and dates must not.
- Ask what the chart showed at a past event, such as the year you married or changed jobs. A system that checks itself should be willing to say the chart does not clearly show it.
If a tool fails step 1, nothing it says about your career or marriage can be trusted, because it is reading someone else's houses.
Which should you use?
- You want to learn what Rahu in the 10th house means in general: ChatGPT is excellent and free.
- You already have an accurate chart from a calculator and want help understanding it: ChatGPT works, provided you paste in the actual degrees and check what it says against them.
- You want an answer about your own career, marriage timing or current dasha: use a tool that computes your chart first. Supastro is one; the best AI Vedic astrology apps guide compares the others.
- You want a human being: neither. Astrotalk and AstroYogi are marketplaces of human astrologers.
Frequently asked questions
Can ChatGPT read my kundli accurately?
It can explain a kundli accurately if you give it the correct chart. It often cannot produce the chart itself: without running code, it estimates planetary positions, and the fast-moving Moon and ascendant are the ones it gets wrong most often. Check its Lagna degree and Moon nakshatra against a free calculator before you trust anything else it says.
Does ChatGPT use Vedic or Western astrology?
It uses whichever you ask for, but it often defaults to Western, tropical astrology and can mix the two within one answer. The two zodiacs are about 24° apart, so a mix-up moves most planets into a different sign. Always ask for the sidereal zodiac with Lahiri ayanamsa and check the result.
Is Supastro just ChatGPT with an astrology skin?
No. Supastro does use large language models, but only after its own code has computed your full sidereal chart. The AI is handed those values as fixed facts, and validators check its numbers and dasha dates against the chart before you see the answer. A plain chatbot has no chart to check against.
Is ChatGPT free for astrology questions?
ChatGPT's Free plan offers unlimited text chats, subject to abuse limits; Go costs ₹399 a month and Plus ₹1,999 a month in India. Supastro's free tier gives 5 starter credits that never expire and 39 free tools, enough for about two chart-based questions; Plus costs ₹599 a month for 15 credits.
What is the best way to use ChatGPT for Vedic astrology?
Get your chart from a calculator first (Drik Panchang, Jagannatha Hora or Supastro's free kundli), set to Lahiri. Paste in the exact degrees of the Lagna and all nine grahas plus your dasha dates. Then ask ChatGPT to explain only from those numbers, and ask it to say when something is not in the data.
Which is more accurate for dasha predictions, ChatGPT or Supastro?
For the dates themselves, Supastro, because it computes Vimshottari dasha to four levels from the Moon's exact position rather than estimating them. Neither tool can guarantee that a predicted event will happen; Supastro's Council reports confidence as a measure of how well the reasoning held up, not as the probability of an event.
