> **The quick answer**
>
> **Astrotalk vs AstroYogi for marriage:** they are the same kind of product, marketplaces where you pay a human astrologer by the minute. **Astrotalk** is far bigger (100M+ Play Store installs, ₹1,176 crore revenue in FY25) with rates we saw from ₹16 to ₹80 a minute. **AstroYogi** is older (since 2001) and smaller, with rates mostly ₹19 to ₹116 a minute and a 4.7 Play rating. Neither refunds you if a prediction turns out wrong. The quality of your answer depends on the individual astrologer far more than on the app, so judge the reading by the method it uses (7th house, D9 Navamsa, dasha and the Jupiter–Saturn double transit), not by the brand.

_Disclosure: Supastro publishes this article and makes an AI Vedic astrology app. Supastro does not run a consultation marketplace. Every Astrotalk, AstroYogi and InstaAstro figure below comes from the company's own pages, its store listings or named press reports, checked logged out on the web on 15 October 2026. Prices change often and can differ when you log in._

Marriage is the single biggest reason Indians open an astrology app. Inc42 reported in August 2026 that **close to 65% of Astrotalk's revenue comes from users asking about marriage**. If you are about to spend money on the question "when will I get married?" or "is this the right person?", it is worth knowing exactly what you are buying.

## Which is better for marriage predictions, Astrotalk or AstroYogi?

On the things the apps control, the differences are small:

- **Choice:** Astrotalk has a much larger pool of astrologers, though its own pages disagree on how large. More choice means more chance of finding someone good, and more chance of finding someone who is not.
- **Price:** both list a wide range. A 20-minute marriage consultation at ₹40 a minute costs ₹800 on either app; at the top of AstroYogi's range it can cost over ₹2,000.
- **Trust signals:** both apps are highly rated on Google Play (4.6 and 4.7). Astrotalk has ten times as many ratings.
- **Refunds:** almost identical. Both refund only to your in-app wallet, only for technical problems or irrelevant answers, and only if you ask within 24 hours. Neither refunds for an inaccurate prediction.

On the thing that matters most, the quality of the marriage reading, the apps cannot promise much, because the reading comes from whichever astrologer you pick. Users quoted by Storyboard18 describe quality varying from astrologer to astrologer; one called it "a gamble". So the useful question is not "Astrotalk or AstroYogi?" but "how do I tell whether this astrologer is reading my marriage properly?"

## How does Vedic astrology actually time a marriage?

Classical Jyotish does not time a marriage from your sun sign or a single planet. A careful astrologer works through layers, and each one can be checked:

_Figure: The five layers of Vedic marriage timing: 7th house and lord, D9 Navamsa, Venus and Jupiter, the dasha of a marriage planet, and the Jupiter–Saturn double transit_

1. **The 7th house and its lord.** The house of partnership, read from both the ascendant and the Moon. Its lord's placement and strength set the overall promise. See [the 7th house explained](https://supastro.com/houses/seventh-house-vedic-astrology).
2. **The D9 Navamsa chart.** The divisional chart for marriage and spouse. A strong 7th lord in the birth chart that is weak in D9 changes the reading. See [the D9 Navamsa chart](https://supastro.com/divisional-charts/d9-navamsa).
3. **Venus, Jupiter and the Upapada Lagna.** Venus signifies the partner and love; Jupiter is the traditional significator of the husband in a woman's chart; the Upapada Lagna shows the marriage itself in the Jaimini system. See [Upapada Lagna explained](https://supastro.com/blog/upapada-lagna-explained).
4. **The dasha.** Marriage usually comes in the mahadasha or antardasha of the 7th lord, a planet in the 7th house, or Venus.
5. **The double transit.** Marriage tends to happen when transiting **Jupiter and Saturn both aspect** the 7th house or its lord within the same window of roughly 6 to 12 months.

This is the method taught in classical texts and in modern books such as Dr N.V. Raghunatha Rao's _Timing of Marriage with Tested Techniques_. Our longer guide, [When Will I Get Married? The Vedic Framework for Marriage Timing](https://supastro.com/blog/when-will-i-get-married-vedic-astrology), walks through it with examples.

> **What to ask any astrologer**
>
> A good marriage reading names the house, the lord, the D9 placement, the dasha and the transit behind its date. If your astrologer gives you a year with none of these, ask for them. If they cannot answer, you are paying for a guess.

## Is kundli matching enough to decide a marriage?

No. Both apps offer free kundli matching, and so does AstroSage. All of them score the 8 kootas of Ashtakoota, out of 36 points, and check Mangal Dosha. That score is a useful first filter, but it only compares the two Moon signs and nakshatras. It says nothing about either person's 7th house, D9 or dasha timing.

| Guna score (out of 36) | Traditional reading | What it does not tell you |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Below 18 | Usually not recommended | Whether the individual charts support marriage at all |
| 18 to 24 | Acceptable | Whether the timing of both dashas lines up |
| 25 to 32 | Good | The strength of each person's 7th lord and Venus |
| 33 to 36 | Excellent | Whether Mangal Dosha is cancelled in either chart |

Treat a high score as a green light to look deeper, not as the answer. Supastro's [kundli matching](https://supastro.com/kundli-matching) adds Dashakoot, a Manglik check that applies the classical cancellations, and an obstructions check on top of the 36 points.

## What about InstaAstro?

InstaAstro (founded 2021) is the fastest-growing rival. It reported ₹111 crore operating revenue in FY26 and raised a $12 million Series A in August 2026, partly to build AI tools. It works the same way: human astrologers by the minute (calls we saw from ₹20 to ₹142 a minute), a ₹1 first consultation, and refunds at its discretion, with no refund for the accuracy of predictions. It is rated 4.7 on Google Play from 109,117 ratings.

## Do Astrotalk or AstroYogi have an AI astrologer?

Not in the way most people expect. Astrotalk's own blog (November 2025) says AI "stays in the background, not in the consultations". It is used for matching and operations. AstroYogi's app offers "AI Astrology Insights", described as quick reports. AstroSage sells named AI astrologer personas, still billed per minute (₹11 to ₹35).

An AI that only chats about your chart has the same weakness as a rushed human reading: it can sound confident about things it never checked. The useful kind of AI computes the chart first and must cite those computed values. Supastro's marriage answers are built that way: the chart, D9, dashas and transits are calculated before any AI writes a word, and a validator checks every date against your computed dasha timeline, forcing a rewrite when one does not match.

**Human marketplace vs computed AI reading**

**Where each is strong**

- Human: can ask follow-up questions about your situation
- Human: warmth, culture and shared language
- Computed AI: the same chart always gives the same calculation
- Computed AI: every claim tied to a house, chart or dasha you can check
- Computed AI: no meter running; Supastro's free tools cost nothing

**Where each is weak**

- Human: quality varies from astrologer to astrologer
- Human: per-minute pricing rewards long sessions
- Human: remedy and gemstone upsells reported by some users
- Computed AI: no live human to talk to
- Computed AI: only as good as the birth time you enter

## Which should you choose?

> **Choose Astrotalk or AstroYogi if**
>
> You want to talk it through with a person, in your language, and you are comfortable paying per minute. Pick a highly rated astrologer with many reviews, and ask for the method behind the date.

> **Choose a computed reading if**
>
> You want the full marriage method (7th house, D9, Upapada, dasha and double transit) computed from your own chart and explained with evidence, at no per-minute cost. ## Frequently asked questions

### Is Astrotalk better than AstroYogi for marriage timing?

Neither app is better at marriage timing as such. Both connect you to human astrologers, and the accuracy depends on the astrologer and on your birth time. Astrotalk offers more astrologers and more ratings; AstroYogi has a slightly higher Play Store rating (4.7 vs 4.6). Judge any reading by whether it explains the 7th house, D9, dasha and transit behind its date.

### How much does a marriage consultation cost on Astrotalk?

Astrotalk prices are per minute and set by each astrologer. We saw ₹16 to ₹80 a minute on 15 October 2026, so a 20-minute consultation would cost about ₹320 to ₹1,600. The first chat is free for new users.

### Can I get a refund if the marriage prediction is wrong?

No. Astrotalk, AstroYogi and InstaAstro all exclude refunds for the accuracy or outcome of predictions. Refunds, where offered, cover technical problems or irrelevant answers, go to your in-app wallet, and must be requested within a short window (24 hours on Astrotalk and AstroYogi, 2 hours on InstaAstro).

### Which planet decides the timing of marriage?

No single planet does. Marriage is usually timed by the dasha of the 7th lord, a planet in the 7th house or Venus, confirmed when transiting Jupiter and Saturn both aspect the 7th house or its lord. The D9 Navamsa chart and the Upapada Lagna refine the reading.

### Is a 36-point kundli match enough for marriage?

No. Ashtakoota compares only the two Moon signs and nakshatras. A full compatibility reading also checks each person's 7th house, 7th lord, Venus, D9 Navamsa, Mangal Dosha cancellations and whether both dasha timelines support marriage in the same period.

### Is online astrology regulated in India?

Not specifically. In August 2026 the Department of Consumer Affairs told the Central Information Commission that it has no guidelines regulating online astrology platforms. Advertising is covered by ASCI codes, which discourage absolute claims such as "100% guaranteed".
