UPSC Attempt Number Four? A Brutal Read of Government-Job Charts
Is there a government job in your kundli, and should you take another UPSC attempt? Parashara's real rules for service to the state, the Sun and 10th lord tests, and the periods and transits that decide 2027.

There is no single government job yoga. Parashara wrote something more useful: a short list of combinations that put a person in the king's service, and in his language the king is the state. If your chart has them and your next period switches them on before your last attempt, go again. If it has none, attempt four is a year you will not get back.
Is there a government job in my kundli?
Only if specific combinations are present, in three places. The 10th house gives authority, profession and honour (BPHS 11.11), and Uttara Kalamrita adds work in the government (ch. 5). The Sun is royal (BPHS 3.14 to 15) and signifies service under the sovereign (Phaladeepika 2.1). The Amatyakaraka (the planet with the second-highest degree in its sign, BPHS 32.13 to 17) is your chart's minister. Check your Supastro kundli against these rows; they are the only government-service rules with a verse.

| If your chart has this | What the text says | What it means for a government job |
|---|---|---|
| 10th lord joined or aspected by the Amatyakaraka, or by its sign lord | Chief in the king's court (BPHS 40.1) | A senior post in the state. The strongest single signature |
| 10th and 11th free of malefics, 11th aspected by its own lord | Chief in the king's court (40.2) | The same, through a clean career and gains axis |
| Lagna lord and 10th lord in each other's signs | Associated with the king in a great manner (40.13) | Your identity and your post become one |
| Atmakaraka or Amatyakaraka in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th or 10th | Royal mercy and patronage (40.6) | Backing from the system, not just a job in it |
| Malefics in the 3rd and 6th (from the Lagna, Atmakaraka or Arudha Lagna) | Army chief (40.7) | My reading: police, defence, enforcement |
| 10th lord in a Navamsa sign owned by the Sun (Leo) | Service under a king or a respectable person (Phaladeepika 5.2) | The classic government-service signature |
| 10th lord in the 2nd or 9th house | Honoured by the king; equal to a king (BPHS 24.110, 24.117) | Recognition from authority |
| 10th lord with a benefic, or in a good house | Always gains through royal patronage (21.4) | A career the state rewards |
Atmakaraka is the planet with the highest degree; Supastro counts the Sun to Saturn for these karakas, Rahu and Ketu excluded. Match none of these rows and your chart does not promise a post through the state. Your next three years belong elsewhere.
How strong is your Sun?
Strong only if it meets Parashara's conditions. The Sun's period gives honours from the government when it is in its own sign, exalted, in a kendra (the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th) or the 11th, joined to the 9th or 10th lord, and strong in its divisional charts (BPHS 47.7 to 11). It gives punishment from the government when debilitated, weak in the 6th, 8th or 12th, or with malefics or those houses' lords (47.12 to 15). Exalted in Aries, debilitated in Libra (3.49 to 50); Leo is its own sign (3.51 to 54).
| Your Sun is | Parashara's Sun period | For another attempt |
|---|---|---|
| In Aries (exalted) or Leo (own sign) | Honours from the government | The strongest Sun for state service |
| In the 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th or 11th house | Honours from the government | Strong, if not in Libra |
| Joined to your 9th or 10th lord | Honours from the government | Strong. Check its Navamsa too |
| In Libra (debilitated) | Punishment from the government | Weak. Attempt four needs another strong signature |
| Weak in the 6th, 8th or 12th, or with their lords | Punishment from the government | Weak. The state is not your patron |
| Any weak row, but aspected by benefics | Some good effects at times | Mixed. The rest of the chart decides |
Dignity is half the test; strength is the rest. The free Dasha Calculator grades each period lord Strong, Steady or Weak from its Shadbala (strength from six sources). In a Sun Mahadasha, this table is your answer for six years.
Where does your 10th lord point, and is your 6th house fighting for you?
Your 10th lord says what work pays you. Phaladeepika reads it through the Navamsa (the D9 chart): a 10th lord in a Navamsa sign owned by the Sun earns through service under a king (5.2), by Jupiter through royal favour (5.6), by Venus as a companion to a king (5.7). The free Career & Money Reading computes this chain from the strongest of your Lagna, Moon and Sun.
Then the house. In the 2nd it is honoured by the king (BPHS 24.110), in the 9th equal to a king (24.117), in the 10th skilful in all jobs (24.118); in the 6th troubled by enemies (24.114), in the 8th devoid of acts (24.116), in the 12th worried in spite of being skilful (24.120). Parashara reads power and position in the Dasamsa (the D10, 7.1 to 8), and the AI Oracle compares your 10th lord and Amatyakaraka across D1 and D10 before answering a career question. See the 10th house and D10 Dasamsa.
Now the 6th house. The classics give it enemies (BPHS 11.7). UPSC's 2026 notice expected about 933 vacancies, so this exam is a fight against rivals, and I read the 6th as your competition house. It grows with effort (an upachaya, 32.35 to 37), and malefics in the 3rd and 6th make an army chief (40.7). Saturn or Mars in your 6th is a fighter's 6th.
Do you have the exam mind: 5th house, Mercury and Jupiter?
Prelims is a 5th-house job before it is a 10th-house job. Parashara gives the 5th learning and knowledge (BPHS 11.6), Mercury speech and Jupiter knowledge (3.12 to 13), and reads learning in the D24 chart (7.1 to 8). Ask the AI Oracle about an exam and it checks your 5th lord and Mercury in the birth chart and the D24. My reading: a strong 5th with a weak Sun clears exams and lands outside the state; a strong Sun with a weak 5th reaches the state by another door.
Should I take attempt number four?
Only if the timing works. UPSC's Examination Notice 05/2026-CSE (4 February 2026) allows six attempts for general and EWS candidates, nine for OBC, unlimited for SC and ST, within ages 21 to 32 on 1 August 2026 (five more years for SC and ST, three for OBC). Sitting one prelims paper counts as an attempt. UPSC's 2027 calendar puts prelims on 23 May 2027 and mains from 20 August 2027, subject to change. I checked both on 30 October 2026. The notice also refuses a horoscope as proof of age. Fair: your birth time is for timing, not paperwork.
The question is whether the period that delivers the promise runs before your last eligible attempt. Find your periods on 23 May 2027 in the Dasha Calculator, then your row.
| Your period's lord on exam day | Parashara | My call |
|---|---|---|
| Your 10th lord | Recognition and awards from the government (48.5 to 8) | Attempt. This is the window |
| Your 5th lord | Progress in education (48.2 to 4) | Attempt. Best for prelims |
| Your 9th lord | Educational progress, unexpected gains (48.5 to 8) | Attempt |
| A strong Sun | Honours from the government (47.7 to 11) | Attempt |
| Your 1st or 4th lord | Well-being; house and land (48.2 to 4) | Attempt only if the promise tests pass |
| Your 2nd, 3rd, 7th or 11th lord | Distress; unfavourable; obstacles to gains (48.2 to 8, 48.18 to 20) | Weak window. Effort without the result |
| Your 6th lord | Danger from enemies, ill health (48.2 to 4) | The rivals' period. Pivot or wait for the next window |
| Your 8th or 12th lord | Financial losses; distress and disease (48.5 to 8) | Pivot. Do not spend a year here |
| A 6th, 8th or 12th lord joined to a 1st, 5th or 9th lord | Turns favourable (48.14 to 17) | Attempt, if the Sun or 10th lord is strong |
| Rahu or Ketu | Good in the 3rd, 6th and 11th (48.18 to 20) | Read its house and the lord it joins (34.16) |
Which Moon signs get help from Jupiter and Saturn on exam day?
Transits are the last check, never the first. Counted from your Moon sign (Phaladeepika 26.1), Jupiter helps in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th, Saturn in the 3rd, 6th and 11th (26.2). On 23 May 2027 Saturn sits at 29 degrees of Pisces, the last third where it acts most, and Jupiter is in Cancer. On 20 August 2027 Saturn is in Aries and Jupiter at 11 degrees of Leo, the middle third where Jupiter acts (26.25). Every date: 2027 Planet Transits.
| Moon sign | Prelims, 23 May 2027 | Mains, 20 Aug 2027 | My read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | Jupiter 4th, Saturn 12th: no help | Jupiter 5th helps | Weak prelims day, better mains |
| Taurus | Saturn 11th helps | Jupiter 4th, Saturn 12th: no help | Saturn carries prelims; mains is hard |
| Gemini | Jupiter 2nd helps; Saturn 10th | Saturn 11th helps; Jupiter 3rd | One helper each day |
| Cancer | Jupiter 1st, Saturn 9th: no help | Jupiter 2nd helps; Saturn 10th | Weak prelims day |
| Leo | Jupiter 12th, Saturn 8th: no help | Jupiter 1st, Saturn 9th: no help | No transit help either day |
| Virgo | Jupiter 11th helps | Jupiter 12th, Saturn 8th: no help | Jupiter carries prelims only |
| Libra | Saturn 6th helps; Jupiter 10th | Jupiter 11th helps | One helper each day |
| Scorpio | Jupiter 9th helps; Saturn 5th | Saturn 6th helps; Jupiter 10th | One helper each day |
| Sagittarius | Jupiter 8th, Saturn 4th: no help | Jupiter 9th helps | Weak prelims day |
| Capricorn | Jupiter 7th and Saturn 3rd both help | Jupiter 8th, Saturn 4th: no help | Best prelims day of the twelve |
| Aquarius | Jupiter 6th, Saturn 2nd: no help | Jupiter 7th and Saturn 3rd both help | Best mains day of the twelve |
| Pisces | Jupiter 5th helps | Jupiter 6th, Saturn 2nd: no help | Jupiter carries prelims only |
A transit cannot rescue a period that says pivot; it decides how hard the day feels. In the month before prelims, the Destiny Window scores each day against your sub-period and transits.
What else has to be computed before this becomes a prediction?
| Layer | What I compute | How it can change the answer |
|---|---|---|
| D1 and D9 | Sun, 10th lord and 5th lord in both | A Sun weak in D1 but strong in D9 behaves better than it looks |
| D10 | 10th lord and Amatyakaraka in the career chart | Separates promise without delivery from a late bloom |
| D24 | 5th lord and Mercury in the learning chart | Separates the exam mind from the job promise |
| Shadbala | Strength of the Sun, 10th lord and period lord | Dignity without strength does not deliver |
| Ashtakavarga | The Sun's and Saturn's own bindus in the signs they cross on exam days | 8 of the Sun's own bindus: wealth from royal favour (Prasna Marga 32.15); 0 to 3 is low (32.14) |
| Exact degrees | Combustion of the 10th lord; the Moon's degree when it is a karaka | The Moon moves about half a degree an hour, so a wrong birth time can swap it with another karaka |
| Arudhas | 3rd and 6th from the Arudha Lagna | Malefics there make the fighter (BPHS 40.7) |
| Dashas | Vimshottari to four levels with a Yogini cross-check, dated to your last attempt | Your real deadline is a period, not a calendar |
| Transits | Jupiter and Saturn from the Moon and the Lagna, with blocking points (vedha) | A blocked good transit gives little (Phaladeepika 26.3 to 5) |
Frequently asked questions
Which planet gives a government job in astrology?
The Sun, royal in BPHS (3.14 to 15) and the planet of service under the sovereign in Phaladeepika (2.1). Then the 10th lord with the Amatyakaraka: a chief in the king's court (BPHS 40.1).
Is there a government job yoga in the kundli?
Not by that name. There are the royal-association combinations of BPHS chapter 40, the 10th lord in the Sun's Navamsa (Phaladeepika 5.2) and the Sun-period rules (BPHS 47.7 to 15). A government job yoga without a verse is folklore.
Can astrology predict UPSC success?
It can tell you whether your chart promises service to the state and whether the delivering period falls before your last attempt. It cannot give you a rank.
Which dasha is good for competitive exams?
The 5th lord's for study, the 10th lord's for the post (BPHS 48.2 to 8), a strong Sun's for honours from the government (47.7 to 11). The 6th, 8th and 12th lords' periods are weakest unless joined to a 1st, 5th or 9th lord.
Is the Sun in the 10th house good for a government job?
Yes, unless debilitated. A Sun in a kendra gives honours from the government in its period (BPHS 47.7 to 11); in Libra it falls under the punishment rule (47.12 to 15).
Should I stop preparing for UPSC if my chart is weak?
If your Sun is debilitated or weak in a hard house, your 10th lord sits in the 8th, and your next period is an 8th or 12th lord's, yes. Your career planet shows where the same discipline pays.
