Why a Serious Jyotish App Built a "Should You Text Them Back?" Button
Supastro's playful free tools run on real Jyotish math. Here is exactly what Should You Text Them Back?, Your Charisma Score and How You Argue compute, from the code.

Because people search in plain words, and nobody types "Ashtakoota with a Navamsa cross-check" when a crush has just texted. So I built the button they do type, and wired it to the same pair engine that runs our Kundli Matching: two full birth charts, eight weighted layers, one verdict. The playful name is the door. The room behind it is real Jyotish. Here are three of those doors, opened.
Why does a serious Jyotish app have playful tools at all?
Because the door has to be in the language people use, and the room behind it should not change with the door. "Kundli Matching" and "Should You Text Them Back?" ask the same question about two charts, so on Supastro they run the same code. One pair engine sits behind every "you and them" tool, from Kundli Matching to Ex Compatibility.
Every free tool starts from a chart computed in code: sidereal positions on the Lahiri ayanamsa (the offset that turns tropical zodiac positions into star-based ones), whole-sign houses, nakshatra and pada, the Navamsa (D9, the ninth-division chart) and the Vimshottari dasha timeline. Only then does a short AI write-up turn the computed facts into sentences. The model never picks the facts. That is the point of a deterministic astrology engine, and why Vedic astrology is math before it is anything else.
What does "Should You Text Them Back?" actually compute?
Both of your full birth charts, scored across eight layers. Each layer scores 0 to 100 and carries a weight:
| Layer | What it reads in both charts | Weight out of 100 |
|---|---|---|
| Core charts (D1) | Each 7th lord's dignity; Venus and Jupiter (combust, or sitting with Saturn, Mars, Rahu or Ketu); how your rising and Moon signs sit against theirs | 20 |
| Jaimini | Your Upapada (marriage point), Darapada (the 7th-house arudha) and Darakaraka (spouse planet), compared across the two charts | 15 |
| Navamsa (D9) | Your Navamsa rising signs, each rising lord's place in the other's Navamsa, and Venus, Jupiter or the 7th lord in the same sign in D1 and D9 (vargottama) | 15 |
| Timing | Whether either of you runs a Venus, Jupiter, Rahu, 7th-lord or 7th-house-planet period now, and when you both do at once in the next 8 years | 15 |
| Ashtakavarga | Bindus (strength points) in each 7th and 11th house, with 28 as average, plus a kakshya check of each rising lord | 10 |
| Manglik | Mars dosha in both charts, with own-chart and pair cancellations | 10 |
| 36-point table | The classical Moon-to-Moon guna table, with Nadi and Bhakoot dosha and their cancellations | 10 |
| Planet links | Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and node contacts between the two charts | 5 |
These are Parashara's marriage factors, not inventions. The 7th house gives the spouse (BPHS 11.8) and so does the Navamsa (BPHS 7.1 to 8). The Upapada governs happiness from the spouse (BPHS 30.1 to 6), the Darapada is the arudha of the 7th (BPHS 29.1 to 3), and the spouse karaka, our Darakaraka, is the last of seven karakas counted from the Sun to Saturn (BPHS 32.1 to 2 and 13 to 17). Read the Upapada explained and what the D9 reads if those are new.

The weighted average is stretched so a typical pair lands near 50. Look at where the 36-point table sits: one layer, 10 points of 100. It gets outvoted by the rest of both charts, and the code tells the AI never to present it as the verdict.
The score picks one of four bands, and only the words change from tool to tool. Find your score:
| Your score | Band | What the old button said | What the Situationship Check says |
|---|---|---|---|
| 75 and up | Excellent | Text them back. | This one's real. |
| 60 to 74 | Good | Text them back. | Real potential, if you both show up. |
| 45 to 59 | Workable | Proceed with caution. | Fun, but read the room. |
| Below 45 | Low | Leave them on read. | Situationship for a reason. |
One override: if a Nadi or Bhakoot dosha is present and not cancelled, the band cannot go above Good, however high the rest scores. Same-gender or unspecified pairs get the 36-point table scored both ways and averaged, so nobody is forced into the groom's slot.
What does Your Charisma Score actually measure?
Not your Venus sign. No rule in it is keyed to the sign at all. It starts at 55 and moves only on these:
| What the code checks | Points |
|---|---|
| Starting score | 55 |
| Venus's Shadbala divided by its classical minimum: every 0.1 above or below 1.0 moves 3 points | +16 at most, -12 at worst |
| Venus combust (within 10 degrees of the Sun, 8 if Venus is retrograde) | -8 |
| Venus in your 1st, 5th, 7th or 11th house | +8 |
| Venus in your 12th house | +3 |
| Venus retrograde | -5 |
| Rising lord's Shadbala against its minimum, skipped if Venus is your rising lord: every 0.1 moves 2 points | +8 at most, -6 at worst |
| Mars in your 1st, 3rd, 5th or 10th house | +6 |
| Mars in your 7th house | +5 |
| Moon in your 1st, 4th, 5th or 7th house | +4 |
| 5th lord (romance) in your 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th or 10th house | +5 |
| Final score is held between | 40 and 99 |
Shadbala is Parashara's six-source strength score. BPHS sets the minimum each planet needs to count as strong, and for Venus it is 330 virupas, or 5.5 rupas (BPHS 27.32 to 33). The tool divides Venus's total by that minimum. A ratio of 1.25 or more is reported as real magnetism; under 1.0, as charm on hard mode. It is a strength measurement wearing a Gen Z word. The method is in planetary strength explained.
What does How You Argue read from your Mars?
Mars, in four layers. Parashara calls Mars "given to anger" (BPHS 3.25), so a conflict read starts there.
- Sign, the archetype. A fixed table of twelve: Mars in Aries is The Flamethrower, in Virgo The Prosecutor, in Capricorn The Strategist.
- House, the arena. Mars in the 2nd fights over money, family and the things people say; in the 7th, with partners and open opponents; in the 10th, over career and authority.
- Nakshatra, pada, dignity and retrograde. A retrograde Mars goes to the write-up as anger that simmers and surfaces late.
- Links, your tell. Saturn, the Moon or Rahu tied to Mars by sign or by graha drishti (planetary aspect).
| Tied to Mars | In the same sign | By aspect |
|---|---|---|
| Saturn | Anger goes cold and long: you hold it, then deliver a verdict | You brake hard, then blow up late |
| Moon | Feelings and fire share one switch: quick to flare, quick to cool | Your mood decides how hard you fight |
| Rahu | Zero to explosive; you can overshoot what you meant | You escalate when you feel cornered |
The aspects follow Parashara: every planet aspects the 7th from itself, Mars also the 4th and 8th, Saturn the 3rd and 10th (BPHS 26.2 to 5). The code also gives Rahu the 5th and 9th, a widely used rule that the BPHS in our library does not state. You should know which line is Parashara and which is convention.
And the archetype comes from Mars's sign alone. On its own, that is the one-placement reading I criticise everywhere else. That is why the tool doesn't stop there. Two people with Mars in Aries get different arenas and different tells when one has Mars in the 4th sitting with Saturn and the other has Mars in the 10th with no links.
The same rule runs through Your Red Flags. It blames your chart's weakest planet by Shadbala, after penalties for combustion, debilitation and losing a planetary war: the same planet Your Chart calls your growth edge.
Can a free tool be as accurate as a full reading?
On method, yes. On depth, no. A free tool computes the layers its one question needs. Your full kundli on Supastro computes all 16 Shodashvarga (divisional) charts, Vimshottari dasha to four levels with Yogini as a cross-check, Shadbala, Ashtakavarga and seven chara karakas before a reading begins. One placement is a clue. A prediction needs the layers to agree.
The write-up is checked too. Every free-tool reading goes through a deterministic fact checker: each sign, house, lord, nakshatra or dasha claim must be in the facts handed to the AI or true in your computed chart. Talk of death, unsupported medical claims and promises of certainty fail outright. If one rewrite cannot fix it, you get the computed result with no AI text. The other free tools follow the same order: compute first, words second. New to all this? Start with the beginner's guide to astrology apps.
Frequently asked questions
Are free astrology tools accurate?
They are as accurate as what they compute and the birth time you give them. Supastro's free tools compute your sidereal chart in code first and let AI word the result. A free tool answers one question from a few layers; a full reading needs them all.
Where did the Should You Text Them Back? tool go?
Its link now opens the Situationship Check. Both ran the same situationship engine, so a pair gets the same score and band; the old button only worded the band as a traffic light.
Is the Charisma Score based on my Venus sign?
No. No rule in it is keyed to your Venus sign. It moves on Venus's measured strength, combustion and retrogression, your rising lord's strength, and the houses of Venus, Mars, the Moon and your 5th lord.
Can two people with Mars in the same sign get different How You Argue results?
Yes. The sign sets only the archetype. Mars's house, nakshatra, dignity, retrograde status and its links to Saturn, the Moon and Rahu all change the read.
Does the AI make up the reading?
No. The facts are computed in code and handed to the model, which only words them. A fact checker compares every checkable claim with your chart before you see it.
Do I need my exact birth time?
Yes. These tools ask for date, time and place, because your rising sign, houses and dasha dates move with the clock. If you are unsure of the time, look at birth time rectification first.
