Using ChatGPT for Your Birth Chart? Prompts and a 10-Minute Fact-Check

Yes, you can use ChatGPT for your birth chart; it can even run code to do the arithmetic. What you must not do is believe a fluent reading before you have checked five numbers against a computed kundli. Below are the two prompts I would give it, the five checks, and where to run each one free on Supastro. Ten minutes, and you will know whether it read your chart or somebody else's.

Can ChatGPT actually calculate a birth chart?

It can try, and sometimes it will get it right. OpenAI's help page says ChatGPT "writes and runs Python code" for some tasks, and its page on accuracy lists code and data analysis as a tool for accurate calculation. The same page lists wrong dates and facts among the mistakes ChatGPT can make, and the code page tells you to review the code, outputs and assumptions before relying on the result (both pages checked 30 October 2026). Its code sandbox also cannot fetch outside data, so ask what it computed from.

So the question is never whether it can compute. It is whether it did, in which zodiac, and whether you checked.

What is the best ChatGPT prompt for a birth chart reading?

Two prompts, in this order. The first makes it commit to numbers you can check. The second makes it read only from those numbers. Paste your birth details as text, not a screenshot of a kundli: OpenAI says ChatGPT may not reliably pull exact values out of image-based tables.

For marriage, tell it to start from the 7th house and its lord, Venus and the Navamsa: Parashara reads the spouse from the 7th (BPHS 11.8), names Venus the indicator of married happiness (BPHS 18.18) and reads the spouse again in the Navamsa (BPHS 7.1 to 8). For career, the 10th house, its lord and the Dashamsa (the D10 chart), which the same chapters tie to profession and position (BPHS 11.11, 7.1 to 8). All of it is on the free kundli.

Which five things should you check, and where?

Open the free kundli in another tab with the same birth details. Go down the list. A miss on any of the first three ends the exercise.

A two-column checking sheet: on the left, the five things the AI told you; on the right, where to verify each one free on Supastro's Free Kundli, Find Your Nakshatra and Dasha Calculator.

1. Zodiac setting. The ayanamsa is the gap between the Western and Vedic zodiacs. On the Lahiri formula Supastro's engine uses, it is 24°14' today (computed for noon IST, 30 October 2026); your chart uses the value at your birth. If ChatGPT's planets sit about 24 degrees ahead of the kundli's, it slipped into the Western zodiac and most of them land in the wrong sign. The full story is in 24 Degrees of Delulu.

2. The Moon's birth star. A nakshatra is 13°20' of sky and a pada, its quarter, is 3°20'. The Moon averages 13.18° a day, so it crosses a pada in about six hours. A Western-zodiac slip of 24°14' moves the Moon 1.82 nakshatras: wrong star, wrong everything after it. Find Your Nakshatra also shows how far through the star your Moon was.

3. Dasha dates. Parashara starts the Vimshottari clock from the Moon's birth star and sets the balance by how much of that star the Moon had already crossed (BPHS 46.12 to 16). One degree of Moon error is 7.5% of a nakshatra. Born in a Venus star, that moves every later date by 548 days; even 0.1° moves them 55 days. A gap of a few days can be method, and Supastro prints its own (a 365.2425-day dasha year) on the page. Months or years means a different Moon. The Dasha Calculator gives the smaller periods to the day.

4. Navamsa positions. Your Navamsa (the D9 chart) cuts every sign into nine parts of 3°20', counted as Parashara sets out (BPHS 6.12). A planet within a degree of one of those edges can change Navamsa sign with a small error in time or ayanamsa. Compare each D9 sign with the Navamsa chart on the free kundli; D9 Navamsa explains what it shows.

5. Rahu and Ketu. The nodes can be computed as the mean node, a smooth average, or the true node, which swings around it. Supastro uses the mean node and says so. Today the two stand 0.86° apart (mean Rahu 1.93° Aquarius, true 2.79°, sidereal); in 2026 the gap peaked at 1.76° on 3 July. Make ChatGPT say which one it used.

Why do the numbers come first?

Because every judgement in Jyotish sits on three numbers: the Lagna degree, the Moon's degree and the ayanamsa. The Lagna moves about a degree every four minutes; the Moon crosses a pada in six hours. Get those wrong and a perfectly reasoned reading describes a stranger. That is why Supastro computes the full chart in code before any AI writes, and why its validators check the AI's numbers, dasha dates and placements against that chart and force a rewrite when they fail. Even the written reading on the free kundli is checked against the computed chart and withheld if it fails.

I wrote up the arithmetic in Vedic Astrology Is Pure Math; the failure mode is in Why LLMs Hallucinate Astrology. If you want the head-to-head rather than the how-to, read Supastro vs ChatGPT. And if you would rather skip the checking, the AI Oracle answers from your computed chart.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best ChatGPT prompt for a birth chart?

One that forces numbers before interpretation: sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa, whole-sign houses, mean node, and a table of positions with nakshatras, Navamsa signs and dasha dates. Use the two prompts above, in order, and never skip the table.

Can I trust ChatGPT's birth chart reading?

Only after its numbers pass the five checks. OpenAI itself tells users to verify important information; in a birth chart that means the ayanamsa, the Moon's star and the dasha dates.

Does ChatGPT use Vedic or Western astrology?

It can work in either. If you do not say sidereal and Lahiri, you cannot know which zodiac it used, so say it, then check its planets against a sidereal kundli.

Why are ChatGPT's dasha dates different from my kundli's?

Almost always a different Moon degree. One degree of error moves later dates by up to a year and a half, depending on your birth star. A few days apart is method, such as true versus mean Lahiri or the length of the dasha year.

Can I upload a screenshot of my kundli to ChatGPT instead?

Paste the numbers as text. OpenAI's help page says ChatGPT may not reliably extract exact values from image-based tables (checked 30 October 2026).

Which ChatGPT prompts work for marriage and career questions?

Run the chart prompt, then the reading prompt. For marriage, point it at the 7th house, its lord, Venus and the Navamsa; for career, the 10th house, its lord and the D10 chart.
