Mool Nakshatra: Traits, Padas, Gandmool, Marriage and Dates to 2027
Mool (Mula) is the 19th star, all of it in Dhanu (Sagittarius), ruled by Ketu. What the verses really say about Mool people, which pada carries the gandanta label, why Saturn weighs on you until 2029, and every Mool date from November 2026 to December 2027.
Mool nakshatra, Mula in the texts, is the 19th of the 27 lunar mansions: 240°00' to 253°20' of the sidereal zodiac, all inside Dhanu (Sagittarius), ruled by Ketu. Parents fear it most, yet Varahamihira gives it one of his kindest lines: proud, respected, wealthy, happy, steady (Brihat Jataka 16.10). The next Mool runs from 12 November 2026, 2:19 p.m., to 13 November, 5:17 p.m. IST.
What is Mool nakshatra?
A 13°20' stretch of sky the Moon crosses in about 26 hours, every 27 days or so. Parashara's dasha order, counted from Krittika, gives the 19th star to Ketu (BPHS 46.12 to 15), and he calls Mula's ruling deity a Rakshasa, a demon (BPHS 93.1 to 2). What are Mool nakshatra people like?
Proud and comfortable, by Varahamihira: haughty, respectable, wealthy, happy, not mischievous, one-minded, living in luxury (BJ 16.10).
His Dhanu Moon line adds the flaw: heir to the father's property, generous, a writer, a speaker, skilled with the hands; religious, yet hostile to friends and kin, moved by sweet words, never by force (BJ 17.9).
Now the second verdict. Jataka Parijata's Mula native is eloquent, but dishonest, ungrateful and poor (JP 9.88): the opposite on money and character. When classics split this hard, the star decides nothing; your Moon's strength and Jupiter, its sign lord, do. The internet's root-digging rebel is in neither verse. The one-line summary of all 27 is the short version; the Moon and nakshatra chapter shows one star's weight in a chart.
Is Mool nakshatra Gandmool, and is it bad?
It is one of the six Gandmool stars: a label, not a sentence. The warning sits where Vrishchika, a water sign, ends and Dhanu begins. Prasna Marga's notes name only Mula's first pada as gandanta (stanzas 16 to 20). Parashara narrows the junction to Mula's first two ghatikas, about 48 minutes (a ghatika is 24), and Abhukta Mula, the band he weighs most heavily, to the first eight (BPHS 92.3, 92.5).
Phaladeepika adds a condition fear-selling pages skip: it assigns the effect of quarters 1, 2 and 3 to the father, the mother and the family only when no benefic occupies or aspects the Lagna (rising sign), and calls the 4th quarter "prosperity and wealth" (Phaladeepika 13.8). Supastro's wedding-date calendar drops only pada 1. What a parent should do, calmly, is in the Gandmool guide; Parashara leaves the rites to a learned priest (BPHS 92, notes), and Supastro sells no rituals.
What are the four padas of Mool nakshatra?
Each pada (quarter) is 3°20' wide and puts your Moon in one sign of the Navamsa, the D9 chart that cuts each sign into nine. Dhanu is a dual sign, whose Navamsas start from the 5th sign (BPHS 4.5, 6.12), so Mool's quarters land in Mesha, Vrishabha, Mithuna and Karka. A dual sign's vargottama Navamsa is its last (Jataka Parijata 1.34), so no Mool Moon repeats its sign in the D9. Padas 1 to 3 sit in Jupiter's moolatrikona, Dhanu 0° to 10° (BPHS 3.51 to 54).

What is Saturn doing to Mool nakshatra in 2026 and 2027?
Sitting on your home. Transits are read from the Moon (Phaladeepika 26.1), and since 29 March 2025 Saturn has been in Meena, 4th from your Dhanu Moon: Kantaka Shani, which Phaladeepika gives loss of wife, relatives and wealth (26.22). It does not end in June 2027: Saturn enters Mesha, your 5th, on 3 June 2027, slips back on 20 October and leaves for good on 23 February 2028.
The 5th is no relief: falling wealth, sorrow over children and a confused mind (26.22), in Mesha, Saturn's sign of fall (BPHS 3.49 to 50), and a fallen planet in a bad house hurts "in an aggravated form" (Phaladeepika 26.32). The turn comes on 8 August 2029, when Saturn enters your 6th: "happiness all round", with one dip back from 5 October 2029 to 17 April 2030.

Mool with Ashlesha scores 24 of 36, yet Prasna Marga calls the two a vedha pair, stars that repel, and says vedha overrides every other agreement (21.45 to 46). Sixteen times from November 2026 to December 2027, each 25.7 to 27.1 hours long. Times are the Moon's entry into and exit from Mool on the Lahiri zodiac, in IST, the same moment worldwide. I computed them on 5 November 2026 on the zodiac Supastro's daily panchang uses and checked three periods against Drik Panchang's New Delhi pages: five of six times matched to the minute; one end time was a minute earlier on Drik's.
