Swati nakshatra is the 15th of the 27 lunar mansions: 186°40' to 200°00' of the sidereal zodiac, all of it inside Tula (Libra), ruled by Rahu, with Vayu, the wind, as its deity. What is Swati nakshatra?
A 13°20' stretch of sky the Moon crosses in about a day, once every 27 days or so. Its ruler comes from the dasha order Parashara gives: counting from Krittika, the lords run Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu and on, which hands the 15th star, Swati, to Rahu (BPHS 46.12 to 15). One oddity: the wind god presides over Swati, yet Prasna Marga files it under fire, not air. No text in our library lists the stars' deities or symbols; those follow the standard attributions Supastro's code uses. All 27 are on the nakshatras page.
What are Swati nakshatra people like?
Self-controlled traders with a soft tongue. Varahamihira gives one line per star, and each line names the star your Moon occupied at birth, not your rising sign's (Brihat Jataka 16). For Swati: restrained, a merchant, generous, sweet-spoken and devoted to dharma (BJ 16.8).
Every Swati Moon is also a Libra Moon, so his Tula line stacks on top: devoted to gods, priests and saints; wise, clean and not greedy; tall with a raised nose; a traveller; wealthy and "clever in buying and selling"; often unwell; always helping relatives who criticise him and drop him in the end; and run by his wife or by women (BJ 17.7).
Put the two together and you get a dealer, not a drifter: composed, persuasive, good with money that moves, and too available to relatives who never pay it back. What are the four padas of Swati nakshatra?
Each pada (quarter) is 3°20' wide and puts your Moon in one sign of the Navamsa, the D9 chart that cuts each sign into nine. Tula is a movable sign, and a movable sign's Navamsas count from itself (BPHS 4.5 and 6.12), so Swati's quarters land in Dhanu, Makara, Kumbha and Meena. None is Tula, so no Swati Moon is vargottama (in the same sign in both charts).

Read it brutally. Pada 3 and 4 natives enter Saturn's 19 years between 16 and 25 and stay until 35 to 44: your twenties are a Saturn decade. Pada 1 natives spend all of their twenties in Jupiter's period, pada 2 natives at least the first half. Is Swati nakshatra good for career?
Good for trade, and trade is the only career word the verses give it: merchant (BJ 16.8), clever at buying and selling (BJ 17.7). That is a working style, not a job title. A career is read from the 10th house and its lord, the D10 chart and the Amatyakaraka (the career planet among the chara karakas), which is what Supastro's AI Oracle checks before it answers a work question. A Swati Moon with a broken 10th house gives you a trader's instinct and nothing to sell.
Who should a Swati native marry?
Nobody is chosen by the star alone, but the star sets three of the eight scores in Supastro's 36-point kundli matching:
- Gana (temperament): Swati is Deva (Prasna Marga 21.32). Another Deva star gives 6 of 6; a Rakshasa star gives 0 or 1, depending on who is the groom.
