Rohini nakshatra is the 4th of the 27 lunar mansions: 40°00' to 53°20' of the sidereal zodiac, all of it inside Vrishabha (Taurus), ruled by the Moon itself, with Brahma, the creator, as its deity. Varahamihira's Rohini native is truthful, clean, free of greed, sweet-tongued, steady of mind and good-looking (Brihat Jataka 16.2). The word sensual is not in his verse. And the hard date: every Rohini Moon is a Taurus Moon, so every Rohini native's Sade Sati starts on 3 June 2027.
What is Rohini nakshatra?
A 13°20' stretch of sky the Moon crosses in 21 to 24 hours, once every 27 days or so. Counting from Krittika, Parashara's dasha lords run Sun, Moon, Mars and on, which hands the 4th star to the Moon (BPHS 46.12 to 15). The Moon is exalted in Vrishabha, deepest at 3°, and the rest of the sign is its moolatrikona (BPHS 3.49 to 54). Rohini sits in that moolatrikona, worth three quarters of exaltation's good by Parashara's own scale (BPHS 3.59 to 60). What are Rohini nakshatra people like?
Honest, clean and steady. Varahamihira's line for the Moon in Rohini: truthful, pure, free of greed, smooth and persuasive in speech, steady in mind and good to look at (BJ 16.2). That is the whole list.
Every Rohini Moon is also a Taurus Moon, and his Taurus line adds weight and friction: a fine gait, a broad face; generous, patient under pain, able to command others; strong appetites, liked by the opposite sex, a staunch friend, many daughters. Then the cost: separated from early friends, from the first money earned and from first-born sons, with the middle and later years the happiest (BJ 17.2).
Sensual and materialistic? Strong appetites and charm, yes; greed, no, the star's own verse says the opposite. The two verses promise a late bloom: losses early, good years in the middle. What are the four padas of Rohini nakshatra?
Each pada (quarter) is 3°20' wide and puts your Moon in one sign of the Navamsa, the D9 chart that cuts each sign into nine. Vrishabha is a fixed sign, and a fixed sign's Navamsas count from the 9th sign (BPHS 4.5 and 6.12), so Rohini's quarters land in Mesha, Vrishabha, Mithuna and Karka. When does Sade Sati start for Rohini nakshatra?
