Sade Sati ("seven and a half") is Saturn's passage through the sign before your birth Moon (the 12th), the Moon's own sign and the sign after it (the 2nd), about two and a half years each. The texts in our library never use the term. They read Saturn from the Moon's sign (Phaladeepika 26.1) and mark these three as hard: wasted effort in the 12th, illness over the Moon, strain on money and family in the 2nd (Phaladeepika 26.22 to 23; Prasna Marga 22.20 to 24).

3. AstroSage: best for choosing your ayanamsa
The free report lets you pick Lahiri, Raman, three KP versions or Sayan. Its public page for each Moon sign is a lifetime table with each retrograde stretch as a row and Saturn 4th and 8th as "Small Panoti". Beats us on: ayanamsa choice and Indian languages. The catch: it suggests a Blue Sapphire after consulting an astrologer, sells gemstones, and says Sade Sati repeats every 25 years; our engine gives 29.1 to 29.9.
4. Prokerala: best quick check of who is affected now
The result covers the rising, peak and setting phases, Dhaiya and Ashtama Shani, and the page lists the Moon signs Saturn affects today with no input. Retrograde pauses: not stated. Beats us on: that no-input list. The catch: paid reports on the same page, including a ₹499 gem recommendation report.

Why does Sade Sati start, pause and restart?
Saturn turns retrograde (appears to move backwards) for months every year, and near a sign line that carries it back into the sign it left. For an Aquarius Moon, Saturn leaves Pisces on 3 June 2027, returns on 20 October 2027 and leaves for good on 23 February 2028. Nor is it exactly seven and a half years: our engine gives 7.05 (Gemini) to 8.85 years (Scorpio) for the twelve signs' current or next one.
What is Dhaiya (small panoti), and is it part of Sade Sati?
No. Dhaiya ("two and a half") is Saturn 4th from your Moon (Kantaka Shani) or 8th (Ashtama Shani). The texts give loss of relations and wealth in the 4th, loss and illness in the 8th (Phaladeepika 26.22); Prasna Marga calls the 4th "a cloud to the mind" (22.22). Kantaka is the old name for the angles (Brihat Jataka 1.17), and Drik Panchang's guide counts the 10th too. Our tool dates the 4th and 8th.
How do you check if a Sade Sati calculator is right?
- Moon sign. If two Lahiri tools disagree, your Moon is near a sign line; your birth time decides.
- One date. Saturn enters Vedic Aries on 3 June 2027. 25 May 2025 or 14 February 2026 means the Western zodiac.
- The pause. Saturn is back in Pisces 20 October 2027 to 23 February 2028. Miss it and the Aquarius and Pisces end dates break.
- One day's slack. Saturn entered Pisces at 11:02 pm IST on 29 March 2025; AstroSage prints 30 March.
