Leaving Co-Star? The Sidereal Apps Worth Switching To in 2026

If your Co-Star sign never sounded like you, the problem may be the zodiac, not you. Co-Star's own FAQ says the app uses the tropical zodiac exclusively; Jyotish uses the sidereal one, and today the two sit 24°14' apart. That gap puts the Sun in a different sign on about four days in five. I built Supastro, so weigh my ranking with that in mind: below are seven sidereal apps, ours included, checked on 30 October 2026, and where each of the others beats mine.

Disclosure: Supastro wrote this and makes one of the apps listed. Every competitor fact comes from that company's own website, FAQ or store listing, opened on 30 October 2026. Nobody paid to be listed, and nobody gets a star rating from us.

Why is your Vedic sign different from your Co-Star sign?

Because the two zodiacs start counting from different points. Western astrology fixes 0° Aries to the spring equinox, so its signs follow the seasons. Jyotish fixes the signs to the stars. The equinox slides backwards against the stars by about 50.3 seconds of arc a year, one degree every 71.6 years. The gap between the two zodiacs is the ayanamsa. On the Lahiri formula Supastro's engine uses, it was zero around 285 CE and stands at 24°14' today (computed for noon IST, 30 October 2026).

What that does to one real position: at noon IST today the Sun stands at 6.85° Scorpio in the Western zodiac and 12.61° Libra in the Vedic one. Anything in the first 24 degrees of a Western sign falls back into the sign before. Across 2026 that happens to the Sun on 295 of 365 days and to the Moon in 80.9% of hours. So for roughly four birthdays in five, your Vedic Sun sign is the sign before your Co-Star one.

Neither zodiac is a typo, but dashas and divisional charts are computed in the sidereal frame, so that is where Jyotish lives. Your Chart shows your Sun, Moon and rising sign in both zodiacs side by side, with the exact ayanamsa at your birth. The long version is in 24 Degrees of Delulu.

Which sidereal astrology apps are worth switching to?

Ranked for one job: replacing Co-Star with a sidereal chart you can check, and readings built on it.

Where does each app beat Supastro?

1. Supastro (ours) is the baseline. It computes the full sidereal kundli before any AI writes a word: all 16 divisional charts, Vimshottari dasha to four levels plus Yogini, Shadbala and Ashtakavarga. The free kundli prints its method on the page: Lahiri, whole-sign houses, mean node. No gemstones, no paid pujas, no per-minute meter.

2. AskSoma beats us on reach: apps for iOS, Android, web and desktop, 21+ languages and voice in 97. One trap for Co-Star leavers: its free Sun, Moon and Rising calculators lead with the Western result and add the Vedic one second.

3. Om.AI is a real store app with a first question that needs no login, and it works in English and Hindi. It names Lahiri and covers Vimshottari and 16 divisional charts. Its website publishes no prices.

4. Cosmitra is web-only like us, built by a team in Miami and India. It beats us on breadth of timing: up to 12 classical dasha systems against our Vimshottari and Yogini.

5. AstroSage Kundli beats every app here on price and choice: free kundli features, 18 interface languages, four ayanamsa options and a KP (Krishnamurti Paddhati) module with cusps and significators. The catch: it sells paid consultations, and AstroSage's separate Kundli Software listing advertises a gemstone shop.

6. Moonly names Lahiri plainly and tracks moon phases and lunar days for your location. Its App Store text mentions no dashas and no divisional charts, and it calls itself "for entertainment purposes only".

7. Nummi feels the most like Co-Star: an AI companion on iOS and Android, and at $7.99 a month it costs less than our Plus plan. It says it computes sidereal positions and reads your current dashas, but it does not name its ayanamsa or any divisional chart on its site.

Not ranked: Time Nomad ($8.99 on the App Store) draws tropical and sidereal charts and sells the nakshatras as an add-on, but its listing names no dashas. Astro-Seek blocked our checks, so it is out. For AI-first apps beyond this list, see The Best AI Vedic Astrology Apps in 2026.

What does Co-Star still do better?

The social layer. Co-Star's FAQ tells you to add friends to see your compatibility and read their daily updates, and the app is free on iOS and Android, paid for by à la carte purchases. Its FAQ even names its house system, Porphyry, which is more method on the page than Nummi gives. If you want a daily line to screenshot with friends, stay. If you want to know when something happens, you need a sidereal chart and a dasha.

Where does Supastro fall short?

  • English only. AskSoma, Om.AI and AstroSage all do better on language.
  • No App Store or Play Store app. You install Supastro on your phone from the browser.
  • No live human astrologers. You cannot book a call.
  • Lahiri only, no KP. If you follow Raman or KP, use AstroSage Kundli.
  • Jaimini Chara dasha is simplified and kept out of chat answers. Cosmitra lists more dasha systems.

How we compared

Four tests, in this order. One: does the app say which zodiac and ayanamsa it uses, on its own pages, so you can check a planet against a free calculator? Two: does it compute what makes Jyotish worth switching for, meaning dashas (the planetary periods that time your life) and divisional charts such as your Navamsa (the D9 chart, which Parashara reads for the spouse, BPHS 7.1 to 8)? Three: can you start free, in English, from the US? Four: what does it try to sell you?

Every fact comes from the company's website, FAQ, llms.txt file or US store listing, opened on 30 October 2026. We did not sign up, pay or test answers, so this ranks published methods, not reading quality. Supastro comes first on our own tests; that is a conflict of interest, which is why our gaps are printed above. Our other app lists are on the best apps hub.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Co-Star alternative for Vedic astrology?

If you want depth you can check, Supastro (ours), starting with a free kundli. If you need a store app, AskSoma or Om.AI: both name the Lahiri ayanamsa and compute dashas and divisional charts.

Does Co-Star use the sidereal zodiac?

No. Its FAQ says the app uses the tropical zodiac exclusively, and contrasts that with the sidereal zodiac of Vedic astrology (checked 30 October 2026).

Is there a free sidereal astrology app?

Yes. AstroSage Kundli's chart features are free on iOS and Android, Om.AI's first question is free without a login, and Supastro's free tools, including Find Your Nakshatra, need no payment.

Why does my Vedic chart show a different rising sign?

The same 24 degree gap applies to your rising sign (Lagna, the sign on the eastern horizon at your birth). If your Western rising sign sits in its first 24 degrees, the Vedic one is the sign before. Check your birth time first; the rising sign is the most time-sensitive point in the chart.

Can I keep Co-Star and use a Vedic app too?

Yes. Just never mix their signs in one reading: a Western Sun sign and a Vedic dasha do not belong to the same chart. More options for newcomers are in Best Astrology Apps for Beginners.
