I did not submit anyone's matching form, so where a brand's page does not say what its result shows, I say so. Nobody gets a star rating.
What does a 36-guna score actually measure?
Kundli matching, also called Guna Milan or Ashtakoota, compares two birth charts across eight factors called kootas: work nature (Varna), mutual attraction (Vashya), birth-star luck (Tara), physical nature (Yoni), friendship of the Moon-sign lords (Graha Maitri), temperament type (Gana), the Moon-sign relationship (Bhakoot) and constitution (Nadi). They carry 1 to 8 points each, 36 in all, and 18 is the usual pass mark.
Every one of the eight is worked out from the two Moons: their signs and their nakshatras, the 27 star segments the Moon moves through. Nothing else. AskSoma, which ranks itself first for kundli matching, says it plainly on its own matching page: its score "does not check the 7th house, Venus placement, Navamsa, or Dasha alignment". A 30 out of 36 can sit on top of two charts that cannot hold a marriage. A 19 can sit on top of two that will.

1. Drik Panchang: the strictest free score
Drik Panchang matches on Ashtakoota and refuses to soften it: "If Nadi Kuta is unfavorable then a match with 28 Gunas is also considered inauspicious." It keeps Mangal dosha out of the score and advises against matching a Manglik with a non-Manglik, then hands you a separate calculator that applies cancellation rules. Free, with ads. Nothing past the gunas.
2. Prokerala: the best free porutham
Prokerala lets you pick the Kerala system, the Tamil system or Guna Milan, and lists all ten poruthams. Its emailed matching report, 17-plus pages, was listed at ₹99 with ₹249 crossed out, and adds the Navamsa chart and Dashakoot, a ten-factor South Indian score.
3. Clickastro: porutham with dasha checks
Clickastro's report covers star poruthams, Manglik (Kuja) dosha, papasamya (weighing the doshas in one chart against the other) and dasa sandhi, the risky junction where one planetary period hands over to the next. Premium was listed at ₹399, in eight languages. Its parent company says Bharat Matrimony uses its engine.
4. Om.AI: the most layers in a free AI report
Om.AI's free report claims five of the six layers above: Manglik for both with cancellations, Nadi severity, both Navamsa charts, the 7th house and both partners' dasha timelines. Porutham is the one it lacks. The catch: the report lives inside the Android or iPhone app, and the interface is English or Hindi.
5. Supastro: the score, then the whole match (ours)
The free kundli matching tool needs no login. It gives the 36-guna score koota by koota, applies Nadi and Bhakoot cancellations with the reason, shows both partners' Manglik status, runs a South Indian check, and dates the windows when both of you run Venus, Jupiter or 7th-lord sub-periods. The full compatibility report costs 5 credits and adds the Navamsa, the Upapada (the Jaimini point read for the spouse) and both dasha timelines side by side. No gemstones, no pujas.
6. AskSoma: the most honest about its limits
AskSoma breaks down all eight kootas and states its rules. It treats Mangal dosha as cancelled when both partners are Manglik or Mars sits in its own or exalted sign, and applies no Nadi exceptions: "a same-Nadi pairing scores 0 and is flagged, full stop." 7. AstroSage: free and generous to the couple
AstroSage's free matching is the most forgiving here: above 18 points it calls a match "decent … even if it has Nadi Dosha". It mentions Navamsa strength among the factors. It also sells a Mangal dosha puja at ₹14,000.
8. Astrotalk: free score, paid astrologers
Astrotalk's free tool covers Ashtakoota and Manglik, and its page describes the 7th house, Navamsa and dasha as steps astrologers take. South Indian porutham goes to a paid astrologer. 9. GaneshaSpeaks: the human-written report
₹999 including taxes, delivered within 72 working hours, written by astrologers with "25+ years of experience". It covers both partners' mahadashas, the main planetary periods. The same report includes "Puja and Gemstone" suggestions, and the site sells both.

Where does Supastro fall short on matching?
It is English only, so it is not the tool to hand to parents who read Tamil or Hindi. There is no human astrologer to sit with both families. The free tool deliberately leaves out longevity and health factors. And every result rests on two birth times: if either is a guess, fix it first.

Is 18 out of 36 gunas enough for marriage?
It is the usual pass mark, not a guarantee. Drik Panchang treats even 28 as inauspicious if Nadi fails. Read Manglik, Nadi, Bhakoot, the 7th house, the Navamsa and both dashas before you decide.
Can a Manglik marry a non-Manglik?
Often, yes. Mangal dosha is cancelled in many charts, for example when Mars sits in its own or exalted sign. Check both charts with a Manglik calculator before anyone books a puja.
What is Nadi dosha, and can it be cancelled?
Nadi dosha means both partners share the same Nadi, the constitution koota, and score 0 of its 8 points. Classical rules cancel it in some cases, such as the same Moon sign with different nakshatras. AskSoma applies no exceptions; Om.AI and Supastro do.
Which app does South Indian porutham matching?
Prokerala (Kerala and Tamil systems) and Clickastro do it in full. Supastro's free tool runs a South Indian check alongside the 36 gunas. Astrotalk sends porutham to a paid astrologer.
