Which sign is mine?
Your Moon sign (rashi): the sign the Moon was in when you were born. It comes from your birth date, time and place, in the sidereal zodiac Indian astrology uses, so it is often not the sign a Western horoscope gives you.
How it is worked out
Each sign's line comes from one rule. Phaladeepika, the classical text by Mantreswara, says transits are counted from the Moon's sign (26.1) and gives the Moon's passage through the twelve houses as: fortune, loss of wealth, success, fear, sorrow, freedom from disease, happiness, untoward events, sickness, cherished wishes, joy and expenditure (26.12).
The good result is then checked for vedha, an obstruction: a planet sitting on the paired point holds it back (26.4). The 8th house is Chandrashtama, the two to two and a half days a month to go slow.
This is a Moon-sign reading: the same for everyone with that Moon sign. It is not a reading of your own chart.
Questions people ask
What is rashifal?
Rashifal means the fruit (phal) of your rashi, your Moon sign. A daily rashifal reads the day from where the Moon is passing, counted from your Moon sign.
How often does the rashifal change?
When the Moon moves into the next sign, about every two and a quarter days. Each sign's page shows the exact time in IST.
Why Moon sign and not Sun sign?
Phaladeepika says transits are counted from the Moon's sign (26.1). Your Moon sign comes from your birth chart in the sidereal zodiac, so it is often different from the Western sign you know.
What is Chandrashtama?
The two to two and a half days each month when the Moon passes the 8th sign from your Moon sign. Phaladeepika gives the Moon in the 8th "untoward events" (26.12), so these are days to avoid new starts and contracts.
