How this is worked out
Your Moon sign counts as house 1. We find the sign the Moon is passing through now, from our own ephemeris in the sidereal (Lahiri) zodiac, and count how many signs on it is from Scorpio.
Phaladeepika gives the Moon's passage through the twelve houses as: fortune, loss of wealth, success, fear, sorrow, freedom from disease, happiness, untoward events, sickness, cherished wishes, joy and expenditure (26.12). That is the day's line, in plain words.
Then vedha, the obstruction rule (26.4): the Moon's good houses (1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th and 11th) each have a paired point (5th, 9th, 12th, 2nd, 4th and 8th). If a planet other than Mercury sits on that point, the good result is held back. Our tables also apply the pairing in reverse: a hard house is softened when a planet sits in its paired good house.
