Jupiter in Cancer 2026: What an Exalted Jupiter Transit Really Means for Your Moon Sign
Jupiter is exalted in Cancer from 2 June to 31 October 2026, and again from 25 January to 26 June 2027. Why "exalted" does not mean everyone wins, and the three checks that tell you what it does for you.

Every few years the forwards start. Jupiter is exalted! Huge luck for all signs! And every time, half the people who read them spend the year waiting for a gift that never arrives.
Exalted Jupiter is real. It is one of the best transits in the Vedic calendar. But it does not hand out the same result to everyone, and the reason is something you can check in your own chart in about five minutes.
Is Jupiter exalted in 2026, and for how long?
Yes, in two stretches. Jupiter had a short preview of Cancer from 18 October to 5 December 2025, then slipped back into Gemini. The main passage runs from 2 June to 31 October 2026. After a few months in Leo, including a retrograde turn on 13 December 2026, Jupiter backs into Cancer on 25 January 2027, turns direct there on 13 April 2027, and finally leaves on 26 June 2027. You can see every sign change with its date on the free 2026 transit calendar.
Two details that most forecasts skip. First, Jupiter crossed its exact exaltation point, 5° Cancer, around 27 June 2026, according to our engine. Second, the 2027 leg only covers the last seven or so degrees of Cancer, all of it inside Ashlesha nakshatra. The 2026 leg covers the whole sign: the last pada of Punarvasu, then Pushya, then Ashlesha.
Does a planet far from its peak degree lose its exaltation? Less than people think. Shadbala measures this as Uchcha Bala, on a scale where 60 virupas is the exact peak. At 23° Cancer, Jupiter still scores about 54. The whole sign is exalted territory; the peak is simply the strongest point in it. If dignity is new to you, the guide to exaltation and debilitation covers the full scale.
What does an exalted Jupiter transit actually change?
An exalted planet is a planet with full resources. Jupiter in Cancer has the water, the nourishment and the emotional intelligence of the Moon's sign behind it, and it expresses its own nature cleanly: teaching, counsel, faith, children, wealth that grows slowly, ethics that hold under pressure.
In transit, that shows up in three ways:
- The house Jupiter occupies in your chart gets protection and growth. Not instant money. Growth, the kind you notice six months later.
- The houses it aspects get its glance. From Cancer, Jupiter aspects the 5th, 7th and 9th signs from itself: Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces. Whatever houses those signs are in your chart get a lift, even if Jupiter itself is in an awkward house for you.
- Whatever Jupiter rules in your chart gets louder. For a Sagittarius or Pisces ascendant, that is you. For a Gemini ascendant, it is marriage and career.

Why "exalted" does not mean everyone wins
Here is the uncomfortable part. Jupiter in Cancer is one planet in one sign. Your chart decides which house that sign is, and classical gochar is blunt about houses. Counted from the natal Moon, Jupiter gives good results in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th. In the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th, the texts describe effort, expense, restlessness or delay.
Exaltation softens the hard houses. It does not turn them into the good ones. An exalted Jupiter in your 12th still spends; it just tends to spend on something worth it, like a course, a pilgrimage or a move abroad. An exalted Jupiter in your 8th still digs; it digs into research, insurance, inheritance or therapy rather than into a crisis.
Then there is vedha, the classical obstruction rule. Each good Jupiter house has a paired point that can block it: 2nd blocked from the 12th, 5th from the 4th, 7th from the 3rd, 9th from the 10th, 11th from the 8th. If another transiting planet sits in the blocking house, the good result is held back. The free Moon-sign transit checker shows vedha for every planet on any day.
Jupiter in Cancer for each Moon sign
Find your Moon sign (your rashi, not your Western sun sign), then read across. If you do not know it, a free kundli gives it in seconds. The house is the same for both the 2026 and the 2027 legs.
| Your Moon sign | Cancer is your | Classical verdict | What it tends to bring |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | 4th | Hard house | Home, property and family duties get attention; peace at home is the real project |
| Taurus | 3rd | Hard house | Effort before reward; writing, skills, siblings and short trips |
| Gemini | 2nd | Good | Savings, family and speech; money that sticks, people who listen |
| Cancer | 1st | Mixed (over the Moon) | Outlook, body and confidence; a restless kind of growth |
| Leo | 12th | Hard house | Spending, travel, sleep and retreat; good for study abroad and spiritual practice |
| Virgo | 11th | Good | Gains, networks and long-held wishes; mentors and friends who open doors |
| Libra | 10th | Hard house | Career shifts and heavier responsibility; respect earned, not handed over |
| Scorpio | 9th | Good | Teachers, faith, father, higher study and long-distance travel |
| Sagittarius | 8th | Hard house | Hidden matters, joint money, research; change that goes deep |
| Capricorn | 7th | Good | Marriage, partnerships, contracts and clients |
| Aquarius | 6th | Hard house | Work routines, health habits, debts and competition; steady fixing |
| Pisces | 5th | Good | Children, romance, creativity, study and mantra practice |
If your row says "hard house", do not close the tab. Two more checks can overturn it, and they matter more than the row.
How do you read it from your ascendant as well as your Moon?
The Moon tells you how the transit feels. The ascendant tells you where it lands in your life. I read both, every time. Find your ascendant (lagna), count from it to Cancer, and note which houses Jupiter rules for you:
| Your ascendant | Jupiter rules your | Cancer is your |
|---|---|---|
| Aries | 9th and 12th | 4th |
| Taurus | 8th and 11th | 3rd |
| Gemini | 7th and 10th | 2nd |
| Cancer | 6th and 9th | 1st |
| Leo | 5th and 8th | 12th |
| Virgo | 4th and 7th | 11th |
| Libra | 3rd and 6th | 10th |
| Scorpio | 2nd and 5th | 9th |
| Sagittarius | 1st and 4th | 8th |
| Capricorn | 3rd and 12th | 7th |
| Aquarius | 2nd and 11th | 6th |
| Pisces | 1st and 10th | 5th |
Take an example chart: Virgo Moon, Sagittarius ascendant. From the Moon, Cancer is the 11th, a textbook good house. From the ascendant, it is the 8th, and Jupiter is the ascendant lord. That person may well gain, but through something that asks them to change: an inheritance handled, a research degree, a business partner's money. The same Virgo Moon with a Pisces ascendant puts Jupiter, ruler of the 1st and 10th, exalted in the 5th. That is the person the forwards were written for.
Ashtakavarga: the filter that decides how much you get
This is the check I trust most. In Ashtakavarga, each planet gets a map of the twelve signs scored from 0 to 8 bindus, built from where every planet sat when you were born. Jupiter's own map is the Jupiter Bhinnashtakavarga. Look at the number in Cancer.
- 5 to 8 bindus: the transit has real support. Expect it to deliver on the themes of its house, even a "hard" one.
- 4 bindus: average. The house verdict from the tables above mostly stands.
- 0 to 3 bindus: thin. Even in a good house, the results come small or late.
Then glance at the total for Cancer in your Sarvashtakavarga. Around 28 is average; well above it, the house can take a big transit gracefully. One finer point: each sign splits into eight slices called kakshyas, and Jupiter's own slice is the second, 3°45′ to 7°30′. The exaltation point sits inside it.

Does your dasha decide whether Jupiter delivers?
It decides when. A transit is a trigger; the dasha is permission. If you are running a Jupiter mahadasha or antardasha, or the period of a planet Jupiter aspects or rules in your chart, this transit has a door to walk through. If your dasha is all about, say, a debilitated Mars in the 6th, Jupiter in Cancer will help at the edges while the main story belongs to Mars. The Jupiter mahadasha guide and step 10 of reading a chart, on transits, go into how the two clocks combine.
Last, check Jupiter's strength at birth. A natal Jupiter that is weak in Shadbala gets a lift from an exalted transit, but it rarely becomes a different planet. Strong natal Jupiters tend to feel this transit most.
What can you do with an exalted Jupiter?
- Start the slow things. A course, a savings habit, a teacher, a child's education plan. Jupiter rewards what compounds.
- Work the house it is in. If it is your 4th, fix the home. If it is your 10th, take the responsibility you were avoiding.
- Use the 2027 leg. Whatever you began between June and October 2026 gets a second pass from 25 January to 26 June 2027.
- Chant on Thursdays. Om Gram Greem Groum Sah Gurave Namah, 108 times, or the simpler Om Brihaspataye Namah. Nothing to buy.
Frequently asked questions
Is Jupiter exalted in 2026?
Yes. In the sidereal (Lahiri) zodiac, Jupiter is in Cancer, its exaltation sign, from 2 June to 31 October 2026, and again from 25 January to 26 June 2027. Its exact exaltation degree is 5° Cancer.
Which Moon signs benefit most from Jupiter in Cancer?
Classically, Gemini (2nd), Pisces (5th), Capricorn (7th), Scorpio (9th) and Virgo (11th) Moons. How much they gain depends on Jupiter's bindus in Cancer and the running dasha.
Is Jupiter in Cancer bad for my sign?
No transit of an exalted Jupiter is simply bad. In the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th from the Moon it asks for effort or spending first, and strong bindus can still make it productive.
When does Jupiter leave Cancer?
It moves into Leo on 31 October 2026, returns to Cancer on 25 January 2027, and leaves for good on 26 June 2027.
Should I use my Moon sign or my ascendant for Guru gochar 2026?
Both. Classical gochar is counted from the Moon, which shows how the transit feels; the house from the ascendant shows which part of life it acts on.
