# Step 10: Transits (Gochara), the Trigger

How to read transits (gochara) in a Vedic birth chart: overlaying the live sky, why a transit needs the dasha to agree, and using Ashtakavarga to grade it.

The final layer is the live sky: the transits, or gochara. Where the dasha says a season is open, the transits say what fires today. Read together, the two clocks are what make timing precise instead of approximate.

The crucial rule is that a transit only lands when the dasha agrees. A dramatic transit during an unsupportive period is a bump; the same transit during a supportive period is a genuine event. Ashtakavarga sharpens this further by grading how each transit will fare.

## What this step reads

At this step you overlay the current sky on the natal chart and weigh it against the dasha.

| What you look at | What it tells you |
| --- | --- |
| Slow-planet transits | The big seasons, from Saturn and Jupiter |
| Transit over natal points | What is being activated right now |
| Ashtakavarga bindus | Whether the transit is well supported |

## How to do it

1. Map the current transits over your natal chart.
2. Check each against the running dasha, since the dasha must agree.
3. Use Ashtakavarga bindus to judge how well a transit will fare.
4. Combine dasha and transit for a precise window, not a vague one.

## Where it sits in the sequence

Transits come last because they are the trigger on top of everything else. Without the dasha and the confirmed promise beneath it, a transit is just weather with no address.

> No single house, sign, planet, nakshatra, or placement should ever be read in isolation. Authentic Vedic astrology (Jyotisha) is a deep, multi-layered system that weighs hundreds of interacting data points for real accuracy: the Lagna and its lord, the Moon and its nakshatra, the natural and Jaimini Chara karakas, the Arudha padas, planetary strength (Shadbala and Dig Bala), dignity, house ownership, conjunctions and aspects, combustion and retrogression, the avasthas, and Ashtakavarga, all cross-checked across the sixteen divisional charts (Shodasavarga) and timed with the Vimshottari dasha and the current transits. Any one factor only hints at a tendency; the real verdict emerges from how every layer agrees or disagrees with the others. Treat this guide as education, not a personal prediction.
