Pushya nakshatra is the 8th of the 27 lunar mansions: 93°20' to 106°40' of the sidereal zodiac, all of it inside Karka (Cancer), ruled by Saturn, with Brihaspati, the teacher of the gods, as its deity. Varahamihira's Pushya native is calm, good-looking, learned, wealthy and religious (Brihat Jataka 16.5). And Jupiter's single highest point, Karka 5°, sits inside its first quarter (BPHS 3.49 to 50).
What is Pushya nakshatra?
A 13°20' stretch of sky the Moon crosses in 21 to 23 hours. Counting from Krittika, Parashara's dasha lords hand the 8th star to Saturn (BPHS 46.12 to 15). What are Pushya nakshatra people like?
Calm, learned and rich. Varahamihira: at peace because the passions are held in check, lovely in form, versed in the shastras (the classical texts), wealthy and religious (BJ 16.5). Jataka Parijata: devoted to gods and Brahmins, wealthy, intelligent, in royal favour, with many relatives (JP 9.85). The same verse calls Ashlesha's native, one star later, wily and treacherous.
Every Pushya Moon is also a Karka Moon, and that line adds the household: ruled by his wife, a good friend and an astrologer, owner of many houses, with money that rises and falls like the Moon's phases, won over by sweet words and busy building tanks and gardens (BJ 17.4).
A learned householder whose savings breathe in and out. The "most auspicious star" label belongs to Pushya as a day for starting things; as a birth star, the verses promise learning, not luck. What are the four padas of Pushya nakshatra?
Each pada (quarter) is 3°20' wide and puts your Moon in one sign of the Navamsa, the D9 chart that cuts each sign into nine. A movable sign's Navamsas count from itself (BPHS 4.5 and 6.12), so Pushya's quarters land in Simha, Kanya, Tula and Vrishchika. Karka's vargottama Navamsa (same sign in both charts) is its first, which belongs to Punarvasu (Jataka Parijata 1.34). Pada 1 holds Jupiter's peak. Pada 4 drops the Moon into Vrishchika in the Navamsa, its sign of fall (BPHS 3.49 to 50): at home in one chart, debilitated in the other.

Read it brutally. Pada 4 natives hit Ketu's 7 years between 17 and 29, when exams, first jobs and marriages happen; Ketu is a malefic in Parashara's list (BPHS 3.11). Is a Pushya birth hard on the parents?
Two texts single out some Pushya births. Phaladeepika assigns the effect of the first quarter to the father, the second to the mother and the fourth to the maternal uncle; its third-quarter line concerns the child, and I do not print lines about a child's life (Phaladeepika 13.8). Jataka Parijata names the two middle quarters instead, plus Karka rising with a Pushya Moon (JP 9.60 to 63). The texts disagree, and neither is a forecast: a parent's life is read from the parent's own chart. Pushya is not a Gandmool star.
What does Saturn do to Pushya natives from 2027?
Transits are read from the Moon (Phaladeepika 26.1), so every Pushya native shares these dates. Saturn now sits 9th from your Moon, which Phaladeepika ties to loss of money and obstacles (26.23). On 3 June 2027 it enters your 10th: loss of honour and a wrong deed. Worse, Mesha is Saturn's sign of fall (BPHS 3.49 to 50), and a planet in its fall in a bad house gives bad results "in an aggravated form" (26.32). It steps back to your 9th from 20 October 2027 to 23 February 2028, then reaches your 11th, good for every planet (26.2), on 8 August 2029, and starts your Sade Sati on 31 May 2032.

Is Pushya nakshatra good for career?
Good for work built on learning, and that is as far as the verses go: learned, wealthy, in royal favour, an astrologer (BJ 16.5, JP 9.85, BJ 17.4). A career is read from the 10th house and its lord, the D10 chart and the Amatyakaraka (the career planet among the chara karakas), which Supastro's AI Oracle checks first. Who should a Pushya native marry?

Purva Ashadha is worse: 12.5 of 36, with Yoni, Bhakoot and Nadi at zero, and a vedha pair, stars that repel, a blemish that "will prevail" over every other agreement (21.45 to 46).
